Most of my life has been guided by defining moments that have sparked new passions — the latest being the Covid-19 Pandemic. I've learned that periods of adversity and challenge are the stage I have to show true grit and ingenuity. Most recently, working as an engineer intern at Wish.com to deliver world-class payment systems, I continue to widen the stage — to perform my best.
As a top-performing student in Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo in Canada, I have been blessed with the platform to pursue my passions and push the boundaries of ideation. With a 90s average, I know firsthand that it isn't about perfection, rather, my academic experience is about finding what I like, and doing it really well.
Paying particular attention to the rise of fake news over the past years, I helped found Factibly.com to enable the truth to prevail no matter the source. Working with talented engineers and coding myself to bring this idea to reality — I learned the importance of lean development cycles, as well as communication, and worked to exercise both to achieve a successful project.
My previous internships have guided my interests along the way. From mobile wallets at Ugo Wallet to working to build the tech behind Canada's largest retailer — Loblaw Digital, and most recently working at Wish; I have the exposure to keep me itching to make a positive difference.
If you've read this far I hope that you find me interesting; know that I want to grow, both technically and in character. I am ready to learn, and equipped to contribute to the team. Now that you know my "life story", I'd love to help be a part of yours.
"Jason did an amazing job at Loblaw Digital. His tenacity to problem solve, drive to learn and willingness to take ownership is what makes him an excellent software developer. I had the pleasure of serving as a mentor to Jason, where he was confident in his ability to ask questions to refine his knowledge, and learn from the experiences and expertise of those around him. This indicates to me that he is taking the right steps toward building his career as a high-quality software developer. During his time on the API team, Jason took full ownership to design, research, and develop the performance metrics system to test the effects of functional code merges, and worked to integrate it into our development pipeline. We did not ask him to, yet he took the initiative to ensure we have a system in place to parameterize our endpoint performance when dealing with calls to numerous backend services. Jason was a pleasure to work with and mentor. Any company would be lucky to have Jason as their next co-op/intern, and I would happily work with Jason again in the future." - Technical Educator @ Shopify
"Jason's genuine guidance and belief in the value of mentorship truly shines as one of his greatest assets. I had the pleasure of consulting with him and learning from his experiences in the industry, understanding how I can bring value and success via my contributions to teams and application processes alike. He provided detailed analyses and constructive feedback - proving himself extremely knowledgeable in his areas of interest. Easy to reach, and agile in communication, it was a pleasure to interact with, and learn from Jason!" - Graphics Developer @ AMD
"I worked with Jason during his time as a co-op developer in UGO. Jason was a fast learner and an avid tech enthusiast. He was an excellent developer and took responsibility for all tasks that were assigned to him. He picked up the basics of Android development very quickly with only a small amount of help from the senior devs. Jason's natural leadership skills and well-articulated presentations set him apart from his peers. He's very efficient in taking something from a conception stage to the final stages of implementation. It was a pleasure working with Jason and I'd highly recommend him as a developer and team member." - Senior Engineer @ GM
